Poem for September 2015

Graduation

From such small beginnings …

The little skinned rat of our dreams

Gulping in teaspoons of air

Only just here, every moment

One tiny, untaken breathe

Away from death … but

Given half a chance, she took it

Now, she stands, waiting in the wings

My heart lifts as they call her name

And the piece de resistance

So fitting for the occasion, is this

From the stage, she turns to the world

And blows a kiss
