A poem for the month - October

Briar

In the old western movies, it was easy

“Don’t just stand there you dolt – get hot water!

And lots of it!” A long shot of a log cabin follows,

Then a baby’s cry and, “Congratulations, you have a daughter!”

But it’s not always like that – birth without complications

Sometimes it’s rough, and that was your kind of birth; it

Was not easy. Yet through the chaos and panic stations

You arrived beautiful, self-possessed, and calm, knowing you were worth it.
