A poem for the month - January 2018

Crime scene

The pūkeko, in their blue uniforms,

spread out in a line across the paddock, doing a ground search,

while kāhu provides aerial surveillance.

The small, curious head of a peeping-tom pheasant

peers over a bush, then ducks out of sight again.

The innocent rabbits run for shelter.

Slinking quickly along the gully, a black cat heads for home.
